Combining macro and micro data from the census |
 |
This workshop will include an introduction to the data services offered
by Census.ac.uk and is aimed at users studying or working in the UK higher and further education sector,
but is not limited to those already registered to use the census.
This day will focus on two widely used census products which are available through census.ac.uk: aggregate statistics (tabular data down to small areas) and cross-sectional microdata (SARs anonymised individual-level data). Users will hear about the key features of these data and get the opportunity to work with them in hands-on sessions.
The day will also look at ways in which these two types of census data can be used together to increase their potential.
This event has been organised as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science which runs from 7th to 16th March 2008. A programme of events can be found at:
ESRC Society Today.
The Festival of Social Science is run by the Economic and Social Research Council to celebrate some of the country’s leading social science research. The ESRC Festival of Social runs alongside National Science and Engineering Week, co-ordinated by the BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science).
The workshop is free to attend and includes lunch and refreshments. However travel and accommodation costs will need to be met by the participants.
